banshee is under active development: collectors will keep changing, and a version you publish will likely need adjustments. For stable use, wait for version 1.0.0.

Watch: silence

watch.silence raises when a value stayed at zero for too long: here, the connections open to port 443. None for an hour may mean nobody reaches the site any more.

How to read it

  • array('warning' => '1 h', 'critical' => '6 h'): the thresholds are durations, how long the value has stayed at zero. A duration is a number, a blank and a unit, s, min, h or d, 30 days at most.
  • Any value other than zero makes the count start again.
  • list.count(text.lines(…)) counts the lines ss printed, one per connection.

To adapt it

  • Any activity that should never stop: messages received, requests served, lines written in a log.
  • On a site with nights without visitors, the habit of the value suits better: see examples/watches/habit.
