banshee is under active development: collectors will keep changing, and a version you publish will likely need adjustments. For stable use, wait for version 1.0.0.

Next version: 0.81.0 — not available yet
Notes

The master builds for Linux, FreeBSD and macOS (Intel and Apple Silicon), not only Linux.

  • The 20-second bound on a database request in flight uses each system's own option: TCP_USER_TIMEOUT (Linux), TCP_RXT_CONNDROPTIME (macOS). FreeBSD has no equivalent: a request in flight waits for the kernel to give up the connection, several minutes.
  • Community has its own address: https://community.banshee-monitoring.app/ is the new default.
  • Windows builds but is not published yet: it does not start.

    First master release published on Community. Not for production use: collectors will still change before 1.0.0.

    • Collectors installed from Community are read-only and updated from their sheet. Duplicate one into the workspace to modify it.
    • A probe that finds no instance (no disk, no interface) is never green: misconfigured if none was ever seen, critical otherwise.
    • Keen: raw multi-line text (<<<'EOT') and text.matches().
    • Binaries carry an embedded Ed25519 signature. banshee-master verify-signature <file> --product=master --version=<x.y.z> checks a downloaded file; show-signature and show-public-key print the running binary's signature and public key.
