banshee is under active development: collectors will keep changing, and a version you publish will likely need adjustments. For stable use, wait for version 1.0.0.

APC rack PDU, by SNMP (PowerNet-MIB)

Returns, for an APC rack PDU and for each of its phases, the load state the PDU judges against its own thresholds (low, normal, near overload, overload), the current, the voltage and the power drawn. Three watches are offered, each one set on the probe. The outlets of a PDU metered by outlet are read by pdu/apc/snmp/outlets.

Versions

Generic: written for the rPDU2 tables of PowerNet-MIB, which APC's rack PDUs of the second generation and later serve (metered, switched, metered by outlet). The first-generation tables (rPDU) are not read: such a PDU stops the collector misconfigured. One collector serves every PDU that serves rPDU2, so it stays at the common level.

How it works

The collector reads two tables under 1.3.6.1.4.1.318.1.1.26:

ColumnOIDRead as
rPDU2DeviceStatusModule.4.3.1.2the PDU's number in its group: the instance pdu <number>
rPDU2DeviceStatusLoadState.4.3.1.4load-state of the PDU
rPDU2DeviceStatusPower.4.3.1.5power of the PDU, in W (the agent counts hundredths of kW)
rPDU2PhaseStatusModule, rPDU2PhaseStatusNumber.6.3.1.2, .6.3.1.3the instance pdu <number> L<phase>
rPDU2PhaseStatusLoadState.6.3.1.4load-state of the phase
rPDU2PhaseStatusCurrent.6.3.1.5current, in A (the agent counts tenths)
rPDU2PhaseStatusVoltage.6.3.1.6voltage, in V
rPDU2PhaseStatusPower.6.3.1.7power of the phase, in W (the agent counts hundredths of kW)
  • The load states: low (1), normal (2), near-overload (3), overload (4); state <number> for another. The PDU judges them against the thresholds set on it, per phase and for the PDU.
  • PDUs linked in a group (Network Port Sharing) are all read through the one that holds the address, each by its number: pdu 1, pdu 2 L1.
  • An agent that serves neither table stops the collector misconfigured.
  • The collector only reads: SNMP sends nothing but reads. No outlet is switched.

Prerequisites

  • The SNMP agent of the PDU enabled, reachable from the poller (UDP 161), its access restricted to the poller.
  • Read-only access, SNMPv2c or SNMPv3, set on the host or one of its folders (protocol:snmp:* variables).

Watches

NameTitleKindDefaultsChecked by default
load-stateNear overload or overloadedstate to avoid, on load-statewarning on near-overload, critical on overloadyes
currentHigh currentabove a threshold, on currentno threshold: it raises nothing until one is set on the probeno
missingPDU or phase missingexpected instances, on load-statenothing named: it raises nothing until names are set on the probeno
  • load-state follows the thresholds set on the PDU itself. current serves a threshold of one's own, the same for every phase: on two feeds of a redundant pair, each phase must stay under half of what its breaker holds, or the other feed trips when one fails.

Limits

  • Not checked against a PDU: the OIDs and units are those of PowerNet-MIB as its public copies give it (LibreNMS, Observium, Netdisco, gathered by oidref.com).
