raid
The status, space and hot spares of each storage pool and volume of a Synology NAS by SNMP.
par banshee1 installation2 versions
Storage pools and volumes of a Synology NAS, by SNMP
Returns, for each storage item that Storage Manager lists (a storage pool, a volume), its status, its used and free space, and its hot spare disks. Five watches are offered, each one set on the probe.
Versions
Generic: written for SYNOLOGY-RAID-MIB as Synology's SNMP MIB guide describes it for DSM 6.2.4 and later. The hot spare count comes with DSM 7.0: on an older DSM, it is not returned. One collector serves every version, so it stays at the common level.
How it works
The collector reads raidTable (1.3.6.1.4.1.6574.3.1):
| Column | OID | Read as |
|---|---|---|
raidName | .1.2 | the storage item's name (Storage Pool 1, Volume 1), the instance |
raidStatus | .1.3 | status, below |
raidFreeSize, raidTotalSize | .1.4, .1.5 | used (total less free, over total) and free, from bytes |
raidHotspareCnt | .1.6 | hot-spares, when not negative (DSM 7.0) |
The status, in words: normal (1); a task in progress: repairing (2), migrating (3), expanding (4), deleting (5), creating (6), syncing (7), parity-checking (8), assembling (9), canceling (10), scrubbing (13), deploying (14), undeploying (15), mounting-cache (16), unmounting-cache (17), expanding-unfinished-shr (18), converting-shr-to-pool (19), migrating-shr1-to-shr2 (20); degraded (11); crashed (12, crashed or read-only); unknown (21).
The collector only reads: SNMP sends nothing but reads.
Prerequisites
- The SNMP service of DSM enabled (Control Panel, Terminal & SNMP, SNMP), reachable from the poller (UDP 161), its access restricted to the poller.
- Read-only access, SNMPv2c or SNMPv3, set on the host or one of its folders (
protocol:snmp:*variables).
Outputs
| Name | Label | Unit | Per instance |
|---|---|---|---|
status | Status | — | yes, per storage item |
used | Used space | % | yes, per storage item |
free | Free space | GiB | yes, per storage item |
hot-spares | Hot spare disks | — | yes, per storage item |
Watches
| Name | Title | Kind | Defaults | Checked by default |
|---|---|---|---|---|
degraded | Storage degraded | state to avoid, on status | warning on degraded, unknown; critical on crashed | yes |
used | Used space | above a threshold, on used | warning above 80 %, critical above 90 % | yes |
full-soon | Full within a week | above a threshold, on used | warning above 99 %, trend 7 d | yes |
no-spare | No hot spare left | below a threshold, on hot-spares | warning below 1 | no |
missing | Storage item missing | expected instances, on status | no item named: it raises nothing until names are set on the probe | no |
Limits
- A task in progress (a repair after a disk change, a scrub) raises nothing: a pool that repairs after a failure was degraded before, and
degradedraised then. - A storage pool that is fully allocated to its volumes reads near 100 % used: its free space is that of its volumes, read by
storage/synology/snmp/volumes. Leave pools out of theusedwatch by the selection, or uncheck it. - The MIB guide gives no unit for the sizes: they are read as bytes.
- Not checked against a Synology: the OIDs and values are those of Synology's SNMP MIB guide (last updated 2026-08-03).
