banshee is under active development: collectors will keep changing, and a version you publish will likely need adjustments. For stable use, wait for version 1.0.0.

The option inherit of a variable

'inherit' => … says how the value of a variable would pass down the tree: down, given on a folder it holds for everything under it; here, it holds on that node only; choice (the default), the administrator says it each time. Here, the time zone a whole site expects.

How to read it

  • Today, inherit changes nothing: a variable of a collector is set on its probe only, never on a folder or a host. The option is accepted and kept; it says what the author means, for the day such a variable can be set higher.
  • 'default' => 'UTC': the value of a new probe until the administrator changes it.
  • The collector compares the time zone read with the one expected, and returns yes or no; watch.state raises a warning on no.

To adapt it

  • timedatectl needs systemd; elsewhere, cat /etc/timezone (Debian, Alpine) or the target of the link /etc/localtime.
  • The other options of a variable: see examples/mechanics/variables.
