Outlets of an APC rack PDU, by SNMP (PowerNet-MIB)
Returns, for each outlet of an APC rack PDU metered by outlet, the load state the PDU judges against the outlet's own thresholds, the current and the power of the device plugged in, and the name an administrator gave the outlet. Four watches are offered, each one set on the probe.
Versions
Generic: written for the rPDU2OutletMeteredStatusTable of PowerNet-MIB, which APC's rack PDUs metered by outlet serve, with or without switching. A PDU metered as a whole only does not serve it, and stops the collector misconfigured: its phases are read by pdu/apc/snmp/phases. Hence the common level.
How it works
The collector reads rPDU2OutletMeteredStatusTable (1.3.6.1.4.1.318.1.1.26.9.4.3.1):
| Column | OID | Read as |
|---|---|---|
rPDU2OutletMeteredStatusModule | .2 | the PDU's number in its group |
rPDU2OutletMeteredStatusName | .3 | label, the name an administrator gave the outlet |
rPDU2OutletMeteredStatusNumber | .4 | the outlet's number: with the PDU's, the instance pdu <number> outlet <number> |
rPDU2OutletMeteredStatusState | .5 | load-state: low (1), normal (2), near-overload (3), overload (4) |
rPDU2OutletMeteredStatusCurrent | .6 | current, in A (the agent counts tenths) |
rPDU2OutletMeteredStatusPower | .7 | power, in W |
- An outlet is named by its PDU and its number, which do not change when its name is edited on the PDU.
- An agent that serves no metered outlet stops the collector
misconfigured. - The collector only reads: SNMP sends nothing but reads. No outlet is switched.
Prerequisites
- The SNMP agent of the PDU enabled, reachable from the poller (UDP 161), its access restricted to the poller.
- Read-only access, SNMPv2c or SNMPv3, set on the host or one of its folders (
protocol:snmp:*variables).
Outputs
| Name | Label | Unit | Per instance |
|---|---|---|---|
label | Outlet name | — | yes, per outlet |
load-state | Load state | — | yes, per outlet |
current | Current | A | yes, per outlet |
power | Power | W | yes, per outlet |
Watches
| Name | Title | Kind | Defaults | Checked by default |
|---|---|---|---|---|
load-state | Outlet near overload or overloaded | state to avoid, on load-state | warning on near-overload, critical on overload | yes |
unplugged | Outlet draws nothing | below a threshold, on power | no threshold: it raises nothing until one is set on the probe | no |
power | Outlet draws too much | above a threshold, on power | no threshold: it raises nothing until one is set on the probe | no |
missing | Outlet missing | expected instances, on load-state | no outlet named: it raises nothing until names are set on the probe | no |
unplugged, set at a few watts with the selection limited to the outlets in use, tells a server that lost one of its two power cords.
Limits
- The unit of
rPDU2OutletMeteredStatusPoweris read as watts: the public copies of the MIB do not give it, where they give tenths of A for the current and hundredths of kW for the power of a phase. Not checked: a PDU that counted otherwise would show a power off by that factor. - Not checked against a PDU: the OIDs are those of PowerNet-MIB as its public copies give it (LibreNMS, Observium, Netdisco, gathered by oidref.com).
