State of a Synology NAS, by SNMP

Returns the state of a Synology NAS: its system partition, power supplies, fans and thermal state, its temperature, whether a DSM update is available, and its model and DSM version. Four watches are offered, each one set on the probe.

Versions

Generic: written for SYNOLOGY-SYSTEM-MIB as Synology's SNMP MIB guide describes it for DSM 6.2.4 and later, DSM UC and DSM Enterprise. An object a model does not serve is left out, so it stays at the common level.

How it works

The collector walks the branch 1.3.6.1.4.1.6574.1 once and reads:

ObjectOID suffixRead as
systemStatus.1.0status of the component System partition
temperature.2.0temperature
powerStatus.3.0status of Power supplies
systemFanStatus, cpuFanStatus.4.1.0, .4.2.0status of System fan, CPU fan
modelName, version.5.1.0, .5.3.0model, version
upgradeAvailable.5.4.0update: available (1), unavailable (2), connecting (3), disconnected (4), others (5)
thermalStatus.8.0status of Thermal
  • A status is normal (1) or failed (2), as the MIB says.
  • A component whose object the agent does not serve is left out; a missing temperature, model or version stops the collector, rather than return a value that was not read.
  • The collector only reads: SNMP sends nothing but reads.

Prerequisites

  • The SNMP service of DSM enabled (Control Panel, Terminal & SNMP, SNMP), reachable from the poller (UDP 161), its access restricted to the poller.
  • Read-only access, SNMPv2c or SNMPv3, set on the host or one of its folders (protocol:snmp:* variables).

Limits

  • An agent that serves no systemStatus (not a Synology, or a view without 1.3.6.1.4.1.6574) stops the collector misconfigured.
  • The MIB guide gives no unit for the temperature: it is read as degrees Celsius, which DSM shows.
  • Not checked against a Synology: the OIDs and values are those of Synology's SNMP MIB guide (last updated 2026-08-03).
